The El Sobrante Valley is located between the Sobrante and San Pablo Ridges in West Contra Costa County, California. Surrounded by rich, natural areas of rolling oak hillsides and bisected by San Pablo Creek, the Valley offers a small town, almost rural feel just 17 miles northeast of San Francisco.
The El Sobrante Valley has experienced rapid population growth during the past two decades. As in many other fast growing communities, park development in the Valley has not kept pace with population growth, resulting in park land deficits. Park and recreation areas are in great demand, a majority of the existing facilities are overused, and anticipated growth will increase pressure on these limited resources. The community’s continuing growth has also made decisions regarding the protection of El Sobrante Valley’s hillsides, creeks, and unique open spaces imperative.
