WANLASS PARK
SAN PABLO, CA

Wanlass Park is a two and a half acre site located at the northern gateway of the City of San Pablo.  It is situated in a primarily residential area that is lacking open space and recreational opportunities. Vallier Design Associates, Inc. worked closely with the City of San Pablo staff to determine park opportunities and constraints as well as safety and maintenance considerations. Community input about park elements and layout was obtained through a series of public workshops. Special attention was paid to retaining and enhancing some of the features that give this site its pastoral and natural qualities, including a historic barn in the center of the park and a stretch of Rheem Creek that meanders through the site. The information gathered was developed into the Wanlass Park Conceptual Master Plan which includes a pedestrian loop trail, a creek restoration area, a restored barn/educational center complex, picnic areas, play structures, connector trails to 20th Street and Wanlass Avenue, open turf and native vegetation areas, restroom facilities, and site furnishings such as benches and lighting.
