RICHMOND COMMUNITY GARDEN
Richmond, CA

Created through the cooperation of senior citizens, youth in the Iron Triangle, Americorps volunteers, the Richmond Community Redevelopment Agency, and Vallier Design Associates, Inc., the Richmond Community Garden is truly a part of the community, from start to finish. The garden is surrounded by five large murals created by Lincoln and Peres Elementary School students, local seniors and members of the National Institute of Art and Disabilities. Seniors from area centers are trained as master gardeners to mentor local elementary school children who both contribute to the upkeep of the garden.  The upper grades of both local elementary schools work in the garden with younger grades of their neighboring schools to create a broad sense of community and responsibility.  Teens work in the garden during summer months to grow produce for seniors and for sale in the local farmer’s market.
