The renovation of this early postwar modern home included a new garden under mature Coast Live Oaks. Native and drought tolerant planting enhances and frames views from the walls of glass original to the home and new sliding glass wall systems allow for direct connection of the landscape. The indoor/outdoor relationship is intensified by stone flooring that continues outdoors as paving for expansive terraces.
Materials including board formed concrete, rusted steel, and field stone were selected to match the rustic character of the site which is located adjacent to significant open space. Multiple downspouts were an architectural quirk of the home that were turned into a feature by the replacement of pipes with rain chains that drain into corten steel basins.
