El Cerrito High School Fields | El Cerrito, CA
The El Cerrito High School Campus design and reconstruction project has been a politically-charged process since its inception. Through an intensive public facilitation process, Vallier Design Associates, Inc. and project architects, WLC Architects, worked with the community to create a solution sensitive to the needs of the school as well as the neighborhood. The project was phased over twelve years and includes a complete new campus and sport complex. The first phase of the project was the design of a temporary campus to house the school during the complete demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of the new campus.VDA, Inc. prepared construction documents and provided construction administration services for the exterior spaces of the temporary campus including eating and socializing areas with landscaping and overhead shade structures, and emergency and ADA access.
A second set of construction documents was been developed for the design of the new campus in coordination with WLC Architect’s building designs to meet the campus-wide circulation, socialization, and recreation needs. Each outdoor room has been designed to maximize legibility, provide a cohesive aesthetic environment and endure heavy use with minimal maintenance. The third phase was demolition of the temporary campus and design and installation of the first half of the schools sport complex including an artificial turf multipurpose field with regulation baseball, softball, a soccer fields and five joint use tennis courts. That final phase was the construction of the stadium complex with regulation football/soccer field, an international broken-back curve track and field events including long and triple jump pits, high jump, pole vault, shot put and discus.
